By creating custom brushes from different porous textures like concrete, I was able to get a more realistic underwater rocky look instead of aquarium. I also added some color on top of the rock to show algae.

The brushes also allowed for weathering in the proper places such as a "natural" path for the slug and more weathering where the rock is exposed to the open ocean.
